Virginia Casino Revenue Increases to $78.8 Million in April

Virginia’s three casinos brought in a combined $78.8 million in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) during April 2025, according to new data from the Virginia Lottery. The figure marks a 31% increase over April 2024, when the state’s total AGR stood at $60.1 million.

Good to know

  • Casino tax revenue reached $14.2 million in April.
  • Caesars Virginia posted the top AGR total at $32.4 million.
  • Slot machines made up more than 75% of total gaming revenue.

The monthly report includes performance from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, and Caesars Virginia. Under Virginia law, AGR is calculated by subtracting winnings paid out from total wagers. Taxes are then applied to that figure.

April’s tax revenue from casinos totaled $14.2 million. These funds were distributed according to state rules, with allocations to the Gaming Proceeds Fund, the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund, and the Family and Children’s Trust Fund. Host localities also receive a share of the funds.

For Bristol, home of the Hard Rock property, the law diverts the local share to the Regional Improvement Commission, which oversees infrastructure and economic development projects across the region.
