Buenos Aires Province Launches Casino License Bidding in Seven Cities

The Province of Buenos Aires is moving ahead with a plan to refresh its land-based casino operations. A newly signed resolution by Gonzalo Atanasof, head of the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos, officially opens the bidding process for seven casino licenses. These properties have been running under extended contracts, and the province wants updated agreements that bring more investment and value to local communities.

Good to know

  • Bidding starts July 8, 2025, and targets casinos already in operation.
  • Boldt S.A. currently manages six of the seven properties involved.
  • The plan aims to boost tourism, improve job security, and modernize venues.

The process kicks off on July 8, 2025, and targets properties located in Necochea, Miramar, Tandil, Sasso, Hermitage, Mar de Ajó, and Sierra de la Ventana.

Although the bidding process is open, it doesn’t mean entirely new companies will enter the space. Instead, the focus is on existing license holders—especially those operating under temporary extensions. One of the biggest players involved, Boldt S.A., currently runs six of the casinos. Their contracts are valid until the end of 2025 or until new deals are signed.

The provincial government is looking for offers that will improve operations, upgrade venues, and increase economic contributions.

Tourism and Jobs at the Center of the Plan

According to Atanasof, the aim isn’t just to renew contracts. “We are not only seeking to ensure the continuity of workers and improve their working conditions but also to attract investments that will help capitalize on the tourism and entertainment potential of each venue,” he said.

The bidding framework suggests a 20-year license term, giving winning bidders a long window to modernize their properties and maintain consistency in operations.

While the Province of Buenos Aires is opening doors to more investment in land-based casinos, the City of Buenos Aires is heading in a different direction—especially when it comes to online gambling.

Earlier in 2024, the city decided to halt the issuance of new online casino licenses, citing concerns about underage gambling and the need for tighter controls.  It was also looking to ban casinos in the city. Just recently, the city has shown its intentions by cracking down on 72 unapproved online casinos that operate in the city. The province and the city operate under separate legal frameworks, giving them full autonomy over how they manage gambling—both online and offline.
