Singapore Approves Three Year License Renewal For Marina Bay Sands

Singapore’s Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) has approved a three-year renewal of the casino license for Marina Bay Sands, beginning April 26. The decision follows a review confirming the resort met the conditions set out under Section 45 of the Casino Control Act.

Good to know

  • Marina Bay Sands has secured a three-year casino license extension starting April 26.
  • Las Vegas Sands plans to invest $8 billion into the resort’s next phase.
  • An agreement with the Singapore Tourism Board will allow more gaming space.

The law requires that the operator not only maintain the casino but also develop the integrated resort into a strong tourist draw that aligns with market demand and industry benchmarks. The GRA said Marina Bay Sands met those expectations.

Operated by a unit of US-based Las Vegas Sands Corp., the Marina Bay Sands resort plays a key role in Singapore’s tourism and entertainment landscape. The resort’s license renewal ensures continued operations as the company moves ahead with its expansion plans.

In October last year, Las Vegas Sands announced it would invest $8 billion into a second phase of the Marina Bay Sands complex. This will include upgraded offerings and an expanded footprint. First planned to finish in 2029, it got slightly delayed and will be finished a year later by June 2030.

Further progress came in January when Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd signed a revised agreement with the Singapore Tourism Board. The deal allows the casino to increase its total gaming space. In exchange, Las Vegas Sands agreed to pay the Singapore government an additional $1 billion.

As the next stage of development unfolds, the license renewal signals continued government confidence in the resort’s role within Singapore’s integrated resort strategy.

Since opening in 2010, Marina Bay Sands has welcomed over 500 million visitors, according to the resort’s management—marking a major milestone for the property’s continued appeal and foot traffic.
