Ernie Stevens Jr Re-elected as Indian Gaming Association Chairman

Ernie Stevens Jr will continue as Chairman of the Indian Gaming Association (IGA) after securing re-election for a 13th term. The vote took place during the final day of the 2025 Indian Gaming Tradeshow and Convention in San Diego. The event also marked the 40th year of the IGA, a non-profit that represents 184 Indian Nations and other stakeholders in Tribal gaming.

Under Stevens’ leadership, Tribal gaming has grown sharply. Back in 2000, revenues stood at $11 billion. By 2024, that number had risen to more than $49.1 billion. Much of that growth came as Native American communities pushed for greater self-sufficiency and economic strength through gaming operations.

Stevens, a former councilman for the Oneida Nation, has been active in Native American leadership roles for years. His focus has always been on advancing the rights and interests of Tribal governments through the gaming industry.

Speaking about his continued role, Stevens said:

“From day one of my Chairmanship, my commitment has been unwavering—my work is my campaign, always inspired and guided by our Tribal leadership.

“For 24 years, I have remained steadfast, and I will not unpack my bags for the next two years either. Together, we will vigorously advance our proactive agenda and stand ready to unite Indian Country to defend Tribal sovereignty at all costs.

“I promised each of you that I would dedicate myself fully—morning, noon and night—to champion our interests in Tribal government gaming. I am honored to be your messenger, amplifying the voices of our elected Tribal officials and I will carry your message with pride and purpose.”

The IGA was founded in 1985 to support Tribal gaming and protect Tribal sovereignty. Over the decades, it has played a major role in pushing policy, building relationships with federal agencies, and promoting Native-led economic development through casino operations and other ventures.

With Stevens continuing in his role, Tribal leaders can expect his steady hand and familiar voice representing their interests across the industry and in Washington, D.C.
