Macau-based Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd is exploring the possibility of building a casino resort in Bangkok. Kevin Clayton, chief brand officer of Galaxy Resorts Thailand, discussed the company’s interest in Thailand’s capital, as reported by the Bangkok Post.
Clayton emphasized Thailand’s need for large-scale investment in attractions to maintain tourism growth. He pointed out that Bangkok, as a major global city, would benefit from a landmark entertainment complex to draw both repeat visitors and newcomers.
“To generate this level of growth, the country needs a sizeable level of investment in key attractions to attract both frequent travelers and first-time visitors. We’re interested in Bangkok, which deserves a truly iconic complex,” he said.
Thailand is currently considering the Entertainment Complex Bill, which could legalize casino resorts. While some opposition exists, Clayton argued that regulation would help address social concerns tied to unregulated gambling.
“The entertainment complex industry is heavily regulated,” Clayton stated. “You probably won’t find a more regulated environment than this, whether in terms of customer acquisition, responsible gambling, or anti-money laundering.”
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra recently stated that the government would take time to review the bill, ensuring input from all stakeholders before making a decision.
Galaxy Entertainment’s chairman, Francis Lui Yiu Tung, confirmed last month that the company has a team studying Thailand’s potential as a casino destination. He remains optimistic about the country’s prospects in the industry.
“We are conducting studies at the moment,” Lui said. “In the meantime, we still feel very bullish about the potential of a Thai casino industry.”
Clayton, who previously served as Galaxy Entertainment’s chief marketing officer, returned to the company in January. His focus is on brand strategy and securing the necessary approvals for Galaxy Entertainment and its partners to develop a casino resort in Bangkok.
