Pennsylvania Gambling Revenue Drops in February Despite iGaming Growth

Pennsylvania’s gambling industry faced a setback in February 2025, with total revenue falling to $477.2 million — a 4.3% decrease from the previous year’s $499.1 million. While retail casinos and sports betting struggled, online gambling (iGaming) showed resilience.

The iGaming sector brought in $202.7 million, representing a solid 12.3% year-over-year increase. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course led the online market with $77.6 million, followed by Valley Forge Casino Resort’s $56.6 million and Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s $34.2 million.

Retail Casinos Experience Mixed Results

Retail casinos had a mixed month, with some venues showing growth while others faced losses. Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course maintained its top position, earning $89.5 million, though that marked a 2.9% decline. Meanwhile, Valley Forge Casino Resort saw a significant 9.9% revenue boost to $81.4 million. Rivers Casino Philadelphia also experienced growth, with a 5% increase to $51.2 million.

However, not all casinos fared well. Wind Creek Bethlehem’s revenue dropped 13.1%, bringing in $39.2 million. Similarly, slot machine revenue continued its downward trend, falling 8.1% to $186.3 million. Parx Casino led the slot segment with $28.9 million despite a 2.7% decline. Wind Creek Bethlehem and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh also reported losses, with slot revenues down by 15.3% and 6.5%, respectively.

Sports betting revenue saw a steep decline, plunging 75.3% to $7.5 million, despite a 14.4% increase in total betting handle to $756.9 million. Analysts attributed the losses to bettors’ successful wagers, particularly on the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl victory.

Valley Forge Casino Resort dominated the sports betting market, generating $13.7 million in revenue from a $284.5 million handle. However, 11 other casinos across the state reported losses in the sector, contributing to the sharp drop in overall revenue.

Despite challenges in retail gaming and sports betting, Pennsylvania’s growing iGaming market provides optimism for future revenue stabilization.
