Dutch Regulator Takes Action Against Online Gambling Autoplay

The Netherlands’ gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has taken action against an online gambling provider for using software that allowed autoplay in its games. The regulator received reports that a player at an online roulette table could continue betting automatically after a win without taking any action. After investigating, the KSA confirmed the feature met the definition of autoplay, which is banned in the country.

Autoplay allows bets to be placed repeatedly without player input. Because this function can increase the risk of addiction, the Netherlands has prohibited its use in online gambling. Once the violation was confirmed, the provider was formally instructed to disable the feature immediately and prevent it from being reintroduced. The game must now undergo a new inspection before it can be made available again.

Many gambling platforms rely on software from third-party developers, which means similar autoplay features could exist elsewhere. To prevent further violations, the KSA has sent a notice to all operators reminding them that autoplay is not allowed. The regulator stressed that providers are responsible for reviewing third-party software to ensure compliance with Dutch gambling laws.

By reinforcing the ban on autoplay, the KSA aims to reduce the risks associated with problem gambling and hold operators accountable for the software they use.
