By bringing antitrust allegations against Genius Sports and Sportradar, Panda Interactive has intensified its legal battle. This modification broadens the scope of the lawsuit and builds on the original claims of patent infringement.
Panda filed the complaint in October 2023, alleging that both businesses were illegally utilizing its patented technology for interactive sports betting and streaming. Panda now alleges that by obtaining exclusive long-term contracts with major sports organizations, the two companies also engage in anti-competitive action by limiting fair market access.
Panda is requesting additional damages in addition to legal action to stop the companies from carrying out these acts in light of these new claims.
CEO Criticizes Market Domination
Panda Interactive’s CEO, Kevin April, voiced strong concerns about the companies’ business practices, stating, “The facts speak for themselves – this action is a necessary response. Many in the industry have raised concerns about how Genius Sports and Sportradar operate, and their strong-arm tactics have coerced the market at the expense of all layers of sport. Their unchecked dominance has persisted for far too long. The future of sports betting should be driven by innovation and competition, not control and coercion.”
Panda’s decision to expand the lawsuit comes as Genius Sports continues its industry growth. After the initial lawsuit, the company secured a temporary gaming license in Maine. Recently, it reported Q3 revenue of $120.3 million, reflecting an 18% year-over-year increase.
As the case progresses, its outcome could significantly impact the sports betting and data technology sector.
