Ohio’s Casino and Sports Betting Revenue Rises in January 2025

The Ohio Casino Control Commission reported a 3.5% increase in casino income, indicating a healthy start to 2025 for the state’s gaming business. Together, the four casinos in the state made $77.9 million in January, with Hollywood Casino Columbus taking the lead with around $22.2 million, a 12.4% increase from the previous year.

Slot machines took in $55.2 million, up 4.1% from the previous year, while table games brought in $22.7 million, up 2.1%. With $8 million from table games and $11.6 million from slots, Jack Cleveland Casino had the most evenly distributed profits. Hard Rock Cincinnati and Hollywood Toledo, however, made $17.7 million and $18.4 million, respectively.

Sports Betting Surpasses $1 Billion Handle

Significant activity was also seen in Ohio’s sports betting industry, where January’s volume reached $1.01 billion, a 24.7% rise from the previous year. The state recovered from its December decline to $963.2 million, and for the first time since November 2024, it surpassed the $1 billion mark.

With just less than $38.9 million, FanDuel was the highest-earning platform, however this was a $10 million decrease from January 2024. With $22 million, DraftKings came in second, but saw a 35.3% drop from the previous year.

The competition between ESPN Bet, BetMGM, Fanatics, and bet365 for third place was fierce. With $6.3 million in sales, Bet365 took first place, followed by Fanatics, BetMGM, and ESPN Bet, with $3.5 million, $4.1 million, and $2.3 million, respectively.

Despite the increased handle, Ohio’s total sports betting revenue dropped 29.4% to $80.2 million, with all earnings coming from online wagering. Retail sportsbooks, on the other hand, reported a loss of $272,100. Operators also paid out over $200 million more in winnings than in January 2024, reflecting a shift in bettor success.
