LGS Issues Warning on Fraudulent Casino Advertisements

Residents are being warned by Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) against misleading advertisements that purport to be online representations of the province’s physical casinos. Scammers have been employing deceptive advertisements to trick users into divulging vital financial information, even though Saskatchewan has tight laws against online casinos, with the exception of one approved platform.

PlayNow, run by the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA), is now the only legally recognized online casino in the province. However, by unlawfully utilizing their logos, photos, and branding, bogus advertisements that are making the rounds on social media are posing as well-known casino businesses, including Dakota Dunes Casino and Casino Regina.

LGS Urges Residents to Stay Vigilant

LGS has issued a firm warning against clicking on these ads, stating: “If you see a Facebook or other social media ad for an online version of Dakota Dunes Casino, Casino Regina or any other land-based casino in Saskatchewan, don’t click on it. Scammers use these types of fake ads to defraud people by stealing credit card numbers and other banking information.”

Authorities stress that there isn’t yet an online gambling platform run by any land-based casinos in Saskatchewan. The deceptive advertisements have also been directed at casinos run by SIGA and LGS in North America.

Residents are being urged by LGS to submit bogus advertisements to the appropriate social media sites in order to address this problem. Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw also used social media in early 2025 to alert gamblers to these frauds.

As online gambling continues to grow in popularity, officials urge players to verify the legitimacy of platforms before engaging in any transactions. Saskatchewan residents should rely only on PlayNow for online gaming to ensure a secure and regulated experience.
