Iowa Approves $275 Million Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center Project

The $275 million Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center was approved by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) by a vote of 4-1. The Linn County Gaming Association (LCGA) and the Cedar Rapids Development Group (CRDG) will hold the groundbreaking ceremony on February 7.

A Milestone for Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids is set to welcome a new entertainment hub. CRDG President Jonathan Swain expressed gratitude for the Commission’s support, stating, “We are so thankful to the Commission for giving us a fair shot at sharing our vision and for making Cedar Crossing a reality.” This marks a significant milestone in the development journey for the area.

Construction will commence with a ceremony attended by local people, business leaders, union representatives, and officials. The casino will serve both locals and visitors from Iowa by providing 700 slot machines and 22 table games. A 1,500-seat entertainment center will also hold a variety of activities and shows.

Cedar Crossing is expected to bring substantial economic benefits, including an estimated $80.2 million in new taxable revenue for Iowa. The project has already surpassed expectations from a 2021 market study, which projected a $51 million increase in taxable revenue. Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell emphasized the community impact, saying, “Today marks an exciting new chapter for the thousands of people who will benefit from new jobs, economic opportunities and entertainment possibilities created by Cedar Crossing.”

In addition to economic growth, Cedar Crossing has committed to allocating 8% of its net adjusted gross revenue (AGR) to local nonprofit organizations, making it the highest AGR contribution in Iowa’s gaming industry.
