The Gary Community School Corporation will receive a $500,000 donation from Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana, marking a major commitment in local education. The goal of this donation is to assist students’ college and career readiness by funding necessary improvements around the district.
Enhancing Facilities for Student Success
Gary Community School Superintendent Dr. Yvonne Stokes expressed her gratitude for the generous donation, which she believes will address critical needs throughout the district. “When I first assumed the role of superintendent, I learned quite a bit about the corporate citizenship that Hard Rock of Northern Indiana consistently displays in this community,” Dr. Stokes said. “It certainly feels great to witness this generosity first-hand in support of our students.”
The donation will help improve facilities and educational resources. Upgrades will begin with the gymnasiums, including wall mats, floor resurfacing, and the replacement of stadium bleachers. Furthermore, plans include the creation of a library and media center, as well as enhanced security equipment. Dr. Stokes hopes that the donation will also help fund additional AV equipment, smartboards, sound systems, microphones, and even a sensory wall with ergonomic lighting.
“At Hard Rock, we direct our philanthropic giving to organizations that are most in need in the surrounding areas,” said Matt Schuffert, President of Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana. “Our leadership and staff are mindful of the important role that we all play in the growth of the community.”

Since opening in May 2021, Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana has quickly become a central part of the region’s economy. The casino, which cost $300 million to construct, features over 2,100 gaming options, including more than 1,700 slot machines and 80 table games. This latest donation demonstrates the casino’s ongoing commitment to improving the local community.
