Waterfront Manila Hotel & Casino Set for Full Reopening in 2027

The Waterfront Manila Hotel & Casino, previously known as the Manila Pavilion Hotel, is progressing toward a full reopening by early 2027, following extensive redevelopment. Acesite (Phils) Hotel Corporation, the operator, revealed the plan in a regulatory filing, highlighting the phased approach to relaunch the property after a fire destroyed it in 2018.

Acesite, a subsidiary of Waterfront Philippines Inc., which owns 55.7% of the company, confirmed a soft launch is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. The reopening will unfold in three stages. In the initial phase, public areas such as the lobby, casino, and dining outlets will reopen. By the third quarter of 2026, additional guest amenities and facilities will be operational. The final phase, slated for the first quarter of 2027, will see the completion of hotel rooms and all remaining amenities.

The property suffered a major fire in March 2018 due to faulty electrical wiring, which tragically claimed the lives of six Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) employees. The redevelopment retains the original structure of the 50-year-old building, a decision made to save costs. However, Acesite noted that preserving the building brought unexpected structural challenges.

“The additional reinforcements are critical to ensuring the long-term safety and well-being of all building occupants, including both guests and employees,” the company stated.

During the redevelopment, the team discovered damaged tendons requiring replacement and reinforcement to maintain the structure’s integrity. Slabs were replaced, and extra framing was added to address issues like vibrations and duct penetrations. Controlled demolition was carefully conducted to avoid disturbing nearby structures. The foundation was also upgraded with modern materials to meet today’s safety standards and extend the building’s lifespan.

Acesite explained that the project has encountered technical difficulties and logistical hurdles, prompting the company to reassess requirements and adjust its timeline. “Unforeseen challenges… included technical difficulties, adjustments to the project scope, and logistical hurdles,” Acesite added. Despite the obstacles, the company emphasized that safety and quality remain the top priorities.

The phased relaunch allows flexibility to address complexities as they arise. Acesite noted that sequencing tasks more effectively is helping to mitigate potential delays. The company remains committed to delivering a safe and fully modernized experience for both employees and guests when the hotel reopens its doors
