According to the December 2024 gaming income data released by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), the state’s casino and sports betting industries saw robust growth. Casino Revenue Breakdown

In December, slot machines led the charge, bringing in nearly $70.1 million of the total GGR. Table games also performed well, contributing another $32.1 million. Encore Boston Harbor was the top performer, earning $64.9 million, which accounted for more than half of the state’s total casino revenue. MGM Springfield followed with almost $22.7 million in revenue from its table games and slots. Plainridge Park Casino contributed nearly $14.6 million to the monthly total.

In terms of taxes, all three casinos paid close to $29 million to the state in December. This highlights the important role the gaming industry continues to play in Massachusetts’ economy.

The state’s sports betting sector also saw impressive results, with December 2024 generating a total handle of $788.3 million. Of this, $776.8 million came from online bets, while the remaining $11.5 million was from retail sportsbooks. Online and retail sports betting together produced taxable gaming revenue of almost $57.5 million. Massachusetts collected nearly $11.5 million in taxes from these activities last month, adding another boost to state revenues.

Massachusetts’ sports betting market continues to expand, with online platforms proving to be the dominant source of revenue. The state’s tax collection reflects the growing success of this sector.
