ICE Barcelona’s revamped Sustainable gaming Zone (SGZ) has begun with a €65,000 ($66,863) charity fund that will be given to a safer gaming organization on-site. As a crucial component of ICE’s continuous dedication to player protection and ethical gaming, this effort officially launches the SGZ. The money will be given out on the first day of the event at the Safer Gambling Zone inauguration, which was sponsored by Cirsa, Orenes, Betsson Group, Flutter, Acordjoc, ALEA, Novomatic, Playtech, and Novomatic Spain.
A Milestone in ICE’s Commitment to Player Protection
Clarion Gaming’s Director of Industry Insight, Ewa Bakun, emphasized the significance of the charity fund, stating, “This is a perfect way to mark the official launch of the ICE Sustainable Gambling Zone.” She also highlighted that since 2018, the total amount raised through ICE has reached €385,000 ($396,062). This significant contribution is directed toward tangible projects that help enhance player protection worldwide.
For instance, Bet Blocker, a past recipient, used their award to develop a Catalan version of their app, which will be officially launched at ICE Barcelona. “The relationship our sponsors have with player protection goes beyond just financial donations,” Bakun explained, adding that the SGZ will be a central hub for debate and collaboration on safer gambling initiatives.
The launch of the Sustainable Gambling Zone signals Clarion’s evolving approach to player safety. “The overarching objective of the Sustainable Gambling Zone is to be at the forefront of initiatives to help develop healthy play from the start of the player journey,” said Bakun. This shift emphasizes proactive player protection measures, ensuring that operators identify and assist those at risk of problem gambling early on.
As the first event organizer to introduce safer gambling initiatives, Clarion’s ICE Consumer Protection Zone has set a precedent for the industry. In 2025, the SGZ will span 490 square meters, hosting 26 organizations focused on consumer protection and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues.
This year’s event, set to take place from January 20th–22nd at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, promises three days of educational content and collaboration. The SGZ will remain a key feature of the event, bringing together stakeholders to discuss and implement solutions that support a sustainable and safe gambling environment.
