The long-awaited Caesars Virginia resort in Danville is set to officially open its doors on December 17. This $750 million project, located in the Schoolfield neighborhood, represents a major addition to Virginia’s casino landscape. Originally planned for an earlier date, the opening was delayed slightly, with Caesars Entertainment announcing the new date last Friday.
Grand Opening Festivities to Feature NBA Icon
The grand opening will be marked by an exciting parade led by retired NBA star Dennis Rodman. Beginning at 10:15 a.m., the parade will showcase race cars and supercars, traveling from Main and Craghead streets to the resort. The vehicles, supplied by Virginia International Raceway, Kaizen Autosport, and Foreign Cars Italia, add a touch of spectacle to the event.
Rodman, known for his role in the Chicago Bulls’ 1990s championship dynasty, will also place the ceremonial first bet at Caesars Sportsbook at noon. Later in the day, a fireworks and drone display will light up the Danville skyline, celebrating the new resort’s launch.
This 587,000-square-foot resort promises to redefine entertainment in the region. The venue features a 90,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,500 slot machines, 79 live-action table games, 48 electronic table games, and a dedicated poker room. Visitors can also enjoy a sportsbook and dine at Ramsay’s Kitchen, a restaurant helmed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.
In addition to gaming, the resort includes a 320-room luxury hotel, a full-service spa, and a pool. Its 50,000-square-foot convention space doubles as a 2,500-seat entertainment venue, ideal for concerts and events.
Caesars Virginia replaces the temporary Danville Casino, which opened in May 2023 and has already contributed over $66 million in gaming taxes to the city and state.
Caesars Virginia is the third permanent casino in the state, following Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol. Approved by 69% of Danville voters in a 2020 referendum, the resort is expected to attract visitors from nearby cities like Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina.
This venture, a partnership between Caesars Entertainment, EBCI Holdings, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, aims to cement Danville as a premier destination for entertainment and gaming.
