Women’s Winter Festival Draws Over 271 Players in London

PokerStars hosted its Women’s Winter Festival at the Hippodrome Casino in London, breaking records for the largest women’s poker event held outside Las Vegas. With over 271 participants, the tournament created a space to celebrate and empower women in poker while offering a guaranteed prize pool of $127,300.

The festival’s Main Event attracted players with a $400 buy-in, all competing for their share of the prize pool and the prestigious PokerStars trophy. Argentine poker professional Maria Lampropulos emerged as the Main Event champion, taking home the top prize of $25,460. The event also featured PokerStars’ first-ever Women’s High Roller tournament and the innovative 50/50 event, which included an equal mix of female and male players.

Jennifer Shahade, a PokerStars Ambassador, highlighted the unique atmosphere of the 50/50 event. “The innovative 50/50 event, with half women and half men, was the most fun I’ve ever had at a poker tourney, with toasts, singing, and belly laughs,” she said.

The Women’s Winter Festival was born out of an effort to address the underrepresentation of women in poker tournaments, where only 3% of players are female. Founder and PokerStars Ambassador Kerryjane Craigie emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment. “This event was a celebration of women and about championing and empowering women in poker,” Craigie said. She expressed gratitude for the community that came together, adding, “I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”

The festival attracted players of all levels, from enthusiasts to professionals, including notable names like Marle Spragg, Kyna England, and Vanessa Kade. Over its four days, the tournament fostered a sense of camaraderie and competition, drawing praise for its welcoming and spirited atmosphere.
