Virginia’s casino industry continues to show strong performance, with the state’s October adjusted gaming revenue (AGR) reaching $57 million. This marks a notable 13.9% increase compared to the same month in 2023. According to figures released by the Virginia Lottery, three active casinos contributed significantly to the state’s overall revenue.
Leading the charge was Rivers Casino Portsmouth, which brought in $25.4 million in AGR, a substantial portion of the total. Caesars Virginia followed with $18.2 million, while Hard Rock Bristol generated $13.4 million. The combined revenue for October also showed a strong balance between slot games and table games, with $42.3 million coming from slots and $14.8 million from table games.
Rivers Casino Portsmouth Dominates Tax Contributions
Rivers Casino Portsmouth not only topped the revenue charts but also made the largest contribution to state taxes, generating $5.8 million. Overall, Virginia’s tax revenue for October amounted to $11.5 million, an increase from $9.1 million recorded in October 2023. The state allocated $7.7 million of this total to the Gaming Proceeds Fund, with a smaller portion, $92,313, directed towards the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund.
October’s AGR figures also reflect consistent growth when compared to September 2024, which posted a slightly lower AGR of $56.6 million. Rivers Casino Portsmouth remained the state’s top performer in both months, contributing $24.2 million in September. Additionally, Virginia’s sports wagering handle in September surged by 20% year-over-year, reaching a total of $622 million.
The strong gaming and sports betting results highlight Virginia’s expanding gaming sector, with a steady rise in both casino revenues and sports betting activity.
