BOS Introduces Key Measures to Combat Money Laundering in Sweden

The gambling industry is one of many industries where money laundering is still a major problem. In order to prevent money laundering in the Swedish gambling industry, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) has announced two significant initiatives.

A thorough Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checklist has been established by BOS to assist Swedish online gambling businesses in following best practices. This checklist provides precise guidelines to guarantee that businesses adhere to the highest standards in their anti-money laundering initiatives. Operators can cooperate with regulators more successfully and help create a safer gambling environment by adhering to these rules. The objective is to establish a consistent strategy for combating money laundering across the sector, presenting a more powerful and cohesive front against illicit activity.

Collaboration with Advisense on AML Report

In addition to the checklist, BOS has partnered with the consulting firm Advisense to publish a detailed report on money laundering within the Swedish online gambling market. This report is the result of in-depth interviews with BOS member companies and offers practical suggestions for improving AML efforts. It highlights areas where gambling companies, as well as banks and authorities, can enhance their cooperation to combat money laundering more effectively.

One notable recommendation from the report is the creation of a Swedish Anti-Money Laundering Intelligence Task Force. Drawing inspiration from the banking sector, this proposed task force would bring together the gambling industry and the Financial Police to share intelligence and develop more coordinated strategies for detecting and preventing money laundering.

“Today we take this comprehensive approach to the problem of money laundering. The purpose is to make visible how the work against money laundering in the gambling industry can be improved. We present our report and checklist completely openly, so that even a gambling company that is not a member of BOS can use the material, if they so wish. We all win from that”, said Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of BOS. This transparent approach underscores the association’s commitment to improving the industry’s practices and ensuring a safer, more secure gambling environment for all.
