Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians to Open Crystal Sky Travel Plaza

The $25 million Crystal Sky travel plaza in Louisville, Winston County, will shortly be unveiled by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. This huge project, which has been in the works for almost two years, is set to debut on December 19.

The 18,000-square-foot Crystal Sky travel plaza is expected to serve as a gathering place for both locals and tourists. It will have 3,000 square feet of retail space, a restaurant, a sportsbook lounge, and a casino with 150 slot machines that is open around-the-clock. In order to accommodate a variety of travel requirements, the facility also has fuel stations made for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

The name “Crystal Sky” pays homage to Winston County’s Crystal Ridge tribal community. Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben emphasized the significance of the project, stating: “This endeavor isn’t just about brick and mortar; it’s about weaving connections. Crystal Sky will not only serve travelers passing through but will also uplift the Louisville and Winston County area and honor the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.”

Community Impact

Set on 18 acres of reservation land within Louisville city limits, the project is expected to generate significant local benefits. It will create over 100 jobs, with opportunities spanning positions such as security officers, sous chefs, line cooks, and deli associates. A job fair is scheduled for November 15 at Lake Tiak-O’Khata to fill these roles.

The facility’s permanent name was chosen through a Tribal-wide contest, replacing its preliminary name, Louisville Travel Plaza. Chief Ben expressed pride in the collaboration, noting how the name reflects the community’s heritage and aspirations.
