Wind Creek Chicago Southland is set to open on November 11, marking the debut of a much-anticipated casino resort in Illinois. The facility, which spans 70,000 square feet, represents the first phase of a project that will reach completion in spring 2025. This casino will provide a variety of entertainment options, including over 1,400 slot machines, 56 table games, a sportsbook, and two high-limit gaming areas.
An Economic Boost for the Southland Region
The Illinois Gaming Board conducted mandatory test days on November 6-7, ensuring the casino’s readiness for its November 11 launch. Wind Creek Chicago Southland is expected to generate over 1,000 full-time jobs, contributing significantly to the region’s economic growth. Wind Creek Hospitality President and CEO Jay Dorris emphasized the company’s commitment to uplifting the local economy and providing competitive benefits for employees.
“The opening of Wind Creek Chicago Southland underscores our dedication to making a positive economic impact in the communities we serve,” said Dorris. He highlighted that the development aims to create opportunities that will support and strengthen the Southland community.
Wind Creek Hospitality operates under the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, Alabama’s only federally recognized tribe, which also manages gaming and racetrack properties across Alabama, Illinois, and Florida. Tribal Chair and CEO Stephanie Bryan underscored the community-centered approach of the casino. “Wind Creek Chicago Southland is more than a casino, it’s a community-driven destination,” Bryan shared, emphasizing the Tribe’s commitment to uplifting the Villages of Homewood and East Hazel Crest.
Wind Creek Chicago Southland’s Executive Vice President and General Manager Roger Kuehn expressed enthusiasm for the project’s impact on the area. “From the start, our mission has been to create jobs, spur economic growth, and offer the ultimate entertainment escape,” said Kuehn. The casino doors will officially open to the public at 11 a.m. on November 11, after receiving final approval from the Illinois Gaming Board on November 8.
