Crown Resorts has appointed David Tsai as its permanent chief executive after he initially stepped in as acting CEO on September 1, following the resignation of Ciarán Carruthers. Carruthers announced his departure in late August and is set to leave by December 31, while Tsai’s new role as CEO is subject to regulatory approval.
David Tsai joined Crown in December 2022 as the CEO of its Perth operations. He later served as president and group chief operating officer in August this year before taking on the acting CEO role. Tsai brings substantial experience from his time at MGM Resorts, where he was president of the Midwest Group and held roles as president and COO of both MGM Grand Detroit and MGM Northfield Park, as well as the Gold Strike Casino Resort. His past positions also include senior vice president and CFO of Monte Carlo Resort and Casino and vice president of strategic development at Aria Resort and Casino.
Crown chair John Borghetti welcomed Tsai’s appointment, stating, “David is a highly capable, proven and experienced integrated resorts executive. He has clearly demonstrated his commercial and strategic ability. Together with his strong cultural and team values, David is well positioned to lead the continued transformation, growth and future success of Crown’s business.”
Tsai expressed enthusiasm about his new role, emphasizing his vision for Crown’s future: “With the support of our talented and committed team, our goal is for Crown Resorts to be the ultimate entertainment destination in each of our cities, positioning Crown to thrive long into the future.”
