ACMA Orders Block on Lucky Block and Rooli for Breaching Australian Gambling Laws

Local internet service providers have been directed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to prevent access to Lucky Block and Rooli, two online gambling websites. The Interactive Gambling Act of 2001 was deemed to have been broken by both websites because they provided unregulated services within the nation.

In Australia, only licensed operators are permitted to offer online gambling services under the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001. Only horse racing, lotteries, and sports betting are offered by these providers. It is completely forbidden to play other types of internet gambling, such as table games and slots.

Cryptocurrency Casino and Sportsbook Violations

Lucky Block operates as a cryptocurrency-based online casino and sportsbook, while Rooli focuses on offering various internet casino games. Their failure to comply with the licensing requirements led to ACMA’s decision to block them. This follows a pattern of enforcement from the Australian authority, which has taken action against numerous other sites for similar breaches.

“Website blocking is one of a range of enforcement options to protect Australians against illegal online gambling,” said ACMA. Since the authority began issuing blocking orders in November 2019, over 1,059 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked. Furthermore, more than 220 illegal services have voluntarily exited the Australian market since 2017 due to tightened enforcement.

Lucky Block and Rooli are not the first to face such action. Recently, ACMA flagged and blocked Casino Belle for violating the same law. Other websites, including Casino Australia Online, Pokies.bet, and Smart Pokies, have also been blocked in recent months as part of ACMA’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal gambling activities.

With ACMA ramping up its enforcement, it’s clear that any operators not complying with Australia’s strict online gambling regulations will face immediate action.
