Maryland Casinos Report Steady Revenue Growth in September 2024

In September 2024, Maryland’s casino sector showed tenacity by reporting $159.5 million in gaming revenue—a 2.8% rise from the same month the previous year and also in August this year. This expansion highlights the industry’s comeback as it adjusts to the post-pandemic environment.

Increased state contributions resulted from the growth in gaming revenue; $68.7 million was contributed to Maryland’s coffers, a 3.4% increase from the previous year. The state’s Education Trust Fund received a sizeable chunk of $49.5 million, a 3.5% increase over the previous year. These monies go toward supporting a range of state activities, such as those related to education, local communities, businesses owned by women and minorities, and horse racing.

Casino Performance Highlights

MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County led the state’s six privately owned casinos in revenue, bringing in $66.9 million, an increase of 8.0% from 2023. Anne Arundel County’s Live! Casino & Hotel came in second with $59.5 million, a 2.0% increase. Certain casinos saw decreases in spite of the general expansion. Revenue at Rocky Gap Casino Resort fell by 8.0%, while Horseshoe Casino Baltimore suffered a 9.2% decline. There were just tiny variations observed at Ocean Downs Casino and Hollywood Casino Perryville; Ocean Downs gained 0.3% while Hollywood Casino had a slight decline of 0.9%.

Even while the performance of certain casinos declined, overall positive growth points to a sustained rebound for Maryland’s gambling industry as it continues to change.
