In a strategic move to enhance its iGaming presence, Boyd Interactive has acquired Resorts Digital, the online gaming division of Resorts Atlantic City. This announcement was made by the property’s President, Mark Giannantonio, on September 23. Notably, the purchase price remains undisclosed.
A Boost for iGaming Success
Giannantonio confirmed that the acquisition was finalized on September 1, emphasizing the potential for growth. “We are confident that this transaction will propel Resorts Digital’s proven success over the past decade to a new level through the scale of Boyd Interactive and its market-leading platform,” he stated.
Boyd Interactive echoed these sentiments, stating that the acquisition “is consistent with Boyd Gaming’s strategy of building a profitable regional iGaming business integrated with our existing nationwide portfolio.” They highlighted New Jersey’s significance in the iGaming landscape, stating, “New Jersey has long been one of the nation’s leading iGaming states, and we look forward to further growing our presence in that state’s online gaming market in partnership with Resorts Casino in Atlantic City.”
Following the acquisition, Resorts Digital will maintain operations under the existing sports betting and internet gambling licenses of Resorts Casino. Moreover, Resorts Casino will continue partnerships with other online gaming entities, including DraftKings, Penn Gaming, PokerStars, and ESPN Bet.
As part of the deal, Boyd Interactive gains access to ResortsCasino.com and MoheganSunCasino.com, along with an unused sports betting skin. The two companies plan to cross-promote their brands, with Resorts promoting ResortsCasino.com within its physical casino. In turn, ResortsCasino.com will highlight the Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City to its online users.
Impressively, Resorts Digital generated over $573 million from gamblers in the first eight months of 2024, significantly surpassing the $109 million earned by the physical Resorts casino, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. This acquisition positions Boyd Interactive to leverage this success for future growth.
