Holland Casino Enschede reopened on September 19 after completing an extensive year-long renovation. The updated venue now offers a more modern and inviting atmosphere, reflecting Holland Casino’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences. The private reopening event featured a ceremonial ribbon-cutting by Mayor Roelof Bleker, marking the casino’s return to full operation with a fresh look.
Situated in central Enschede, the four-story casino underwent significant upgrades to meet Holland Casino’s standards for modern gaming environments. One of the standout features is the redesigned entrance, allowing more natural light onto the gaming floor—a thoughtful addition aimed at promoting healthier gaming habits. Casino manager Rolf Paapst noted, “We have asked a lot from our guests and employees over the past year, but the results are worth it. I am incredibly proud of the outcome.” He highlighted the connection to Enschede’s heritage, seen in the casino’s design elements like the street atlas ceiling and textile-inspired décor.
Blending Tradition with Modern Amenities
The redesign not only modernized the casino but also honored Enschede’s rich textile history, reflecting the city’s legacy within the venue’s new aesthetic. The “Red Couture” themed reopening event underscored this blend of old and new, celebrating the casino’s role in the community while looking ahead to the future.
Holland Casino began the renovation in August 2023, tackling the updates in phases to minimize disruption. Although the venue never fully closed, guests experienced some temporary changes as gaming areas, bars, and the Classic Bingo were relocated or redesigned. Despite these challenges, Paapst emphasized that guest satisfaction remained high, with visitors continuing to support the casino throughout the renovation period.
Holland Casino Enschede now features the Taste Brasserie & Wines, a new dining concept that elevates the overall guest experience. While the renovation brought many enhancements, some strategic cost-saving decisions were made, such as postponing the fourth-floor updates. This aligns with Holland Casino’s broader strategy of balancing investment with financial prudence.
CEO Petra de Ruiter expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments given current economic pressures. “I am extremely happy for the guests, employees, and residents of Enschede with the renovated casino,” de Ruiter said. She acknowledged the challenges posed by rising costs, adding, “Such a renovation in this day and age is not self-evident. Investments are under great pressure due to the high cost level that Holland Casino has to deal with. The fact that we have been able to set up such a fantastic casino in Enschede is therefore extra special to me.”
Following the grand reopening, the public was invited to join the celebrations from September 20 to 22. Guests enjoyed live performances, entertainment, and appearances by local celebrities, including Mari van de Ven and DJ Sven Elias. The revamped Holland Casino Enschede is now fully operational, offering a refreshed environment that beautifully integrates modern amenities with the city’s cultural legacy.
