ACMA Blocks Casino Bello Over Breach of Gambling Laws

After it was determined through investigations that the platform had broken the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) ordered internet service providers (ISPs) to disable access to Casino Bello, an unlicensed offshore gaming website. The ACMA is working to protect Australians from illicit internet gaming activities, and this action is part of that effort.

The ACMA has blocked access to 1,033 websites, including affiliate platforms, since November 2019, when it started to block unlawful websites. Over 220 unlicensed services have also left the Australian market since the ACMA began its campaign against unlawful offshore gaming in 2017.

Protecting Consumers from Unlicensed Operators

ACMA reminds users that even seemingly legitimate gambling sites may lack critical consumer protections if they are unlicensed. The agency advises checking the official register on ACMA’s website to confirm whether a wagering service is legally allowed to operate in Australia. For further support, the website also provides guidance on recognizing illegal operators and reporting them.

“Website blocking is one of a range of enforcement options to protect Australians against illegal online gambling,” ACMA stated, emphasizing the broader efforts in combating unregulated services.

In addition, ACMA offers information on protecting oneself from illegal gambling activities and how to report unauthorized operators. This initiative is crucial in ensuring consumer safety in a rapidly evolving digital gambling landscape.
