The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has granted renewed licenses to Detroit’s three casinos—MotorCity, MGM Grand Detroit, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown. The unanimous decision was made during the board’s recent public meeting, where members ensured that each casino complied with the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act.
Henry Williams, Executive Director of MGCB, expressed satisfaction with the board’s decision, stating, “I am pleased to announce the unanimous approval of the license renewals for Detroit’s three authorized commercial casinos.” He emphasized that this renewal reflects the board’s confidence in the casinos’ commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity, security, and fairness. Williams added that the MGCB looks forward to continued cooperation with the casinos to provide a positive experience for patrons while emphasizing responsible gaming practices.
The renewed licenses will remain in effect until August 2025, when the casinos will again be eligible for renewal.
In addition to the license renewals, the board made another significant decision. They voted to allow more small businesses to provide services and goods to Detroit’s casinos. Williams elaborated on this change, explaining that Board Resolution 2024-03 introduces a “Subcontractor 2” exemption. This exemption permits subcontractors to supply up to $500,000 in nongaming-related goods and services to each casino annually.
“This adjustment aligns with the Board’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse supplier landscape within the Detroit casino industry,” Williams noted. He highlighted that the change would bring substantial benefits to small businesses, creating new job opportunities and contributing to economic growth in the industry.
