Through a number of programs, MGM actively works with Macau’s stakeholders to promote responsible gambling (RG) in order to promote a wholesome and sustainable community. A major initiative is the “MGM Financial Education School Tour 2024 – Hero of Egg Waffle,” which tries to prevent problem gambling and foster financial literacy among schools. Students are to be taught the value of prudent financial planning through interactive exercises and storytelling as part of this program.
Tian Han, EVP of Gaming Operations & Strategic Marketing at MGM, shared the company’s approach: “MGM organizes a series of RG promotional activities with different themes for all ages in society. We launched the ‘MGM Financial Education School Tour’ in 2023, presenting a musical drama every year addressing current social issues such as blind box purchases and online game recharging, helping students develop a proper concept of money and values in a fresh and fun way.” The school tour reaches 20 local primary and secondary schools, impacting over 3,000 students each academic year.
Extending Outreach to University Students and the Wider Community
MGM’s commitment to promoting responsible gambling extends beyond younger students. The company has partnered with City University of Macau (CityU) to launch the “Responsible Gaming Project at Campus.” This collaboration includes RG training and lectures at the university, enabling trained students to become RG ambassadors at MGM’s promotional events. The project aims to deepen students’ understanding of RG’s importance and contribute to a safer community environment.
Additionally, MGM is raising public awareness of responsible gambling through initiatives like the “Photo Exhibition of Gaming Industry and Responsible Gaming Promotions in Macau – MGM Special Session.” The exhibition covers topics such as the history of Macau’s gaming industry and the evolution of responsible gambling efforts, drawing attention from local associations, the gaming industry, residents, and tourists alike.
MGM also joined forces with the Macao New Chinese Youth Association to host the “Responsible Gaming City Orienteering Competition,” where 30 teams participated in a series of games and challenges to learn RG knowledge. This competition creatively combined sports with responsible gambling education, making the learning experience both engaging and informative.
