The gaming industry in Nevada earned $1.28 billion in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in June. This figure adds up to an astonishing $15.76 billion for the fiscal year 2024 as a whole. This year’s revenue surpasses the $15.1 billion record set in the previous fiscal year, becoming the biggest amount ever recorded for the Silver State. Following its release from COVID-19 lockdowns in June 2020, Nevada’s casino industry has continuously broken records in a number of different categories. Previously in 2022, the Nevada Gaming Industry peaked in revenue with an all-time high figure of $14.84 Billion.
Consistent Growth Across Key Metrics
Fiscal year 2024 stands as the third consecutive year of record-breaking achievements for Nevada’s gaming industry. Noteworthy full-year records include:
- Las Vegas Strip Revenue: $9.1 billion
- Las Vegas Locals Market Revenue: $3.1 billion
- Statewide Slot Win: $10.3 billion
- Statewide Slot Coin-In: $144.5 billion
- Statewide Table and Card Game Win: $5.4 billion
- Statewide Games Drop: $36 billion
- Statewide Sports Pool Win: $512.8 million
According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), the Las Vegas locals market saw the most significant GGR increase for FY24, rising 7.4%. The Las Vegas Strip followed with a 6% increase, while overall Clark County experienced a nearly 5% bump. Conversely, South Lake Tahoe (-2.23%) and North Las Vegas (-1.87%) lagged behind in performance.
Divergent June Results: Southern vs. Northern Markets
June’s performance showed a stark contrast between northern and southern Nevada markets. Southern Nevada experienced strong results, with the Las Vegas locals market achieving a GGR of $147 million, up nearly 10% from the previous year. Downtown Las Vegas (5.8%), the Strip (4.3%), and Mesquite (3.5%) all saw significant year-over-year increases. However, Laughlin and North Las Vegas reported slight declines, both under 2%.
In northern Nevada, the results were less favorable. Washoe County saw an overall GGR decline of 7.6%. Sparks experienced a significant drop of 12.8%, with GGR of $13.4 million, and Reno saw a 7% decrease to $64.2 million. North and South Lake Tahoe faced declines of 3% and 12.6%, respectively, while the Carson Valley area fell by 5%. Elko County stood out as the best-performing northern sector, with a GGR increase of 6.5%, totaling $33 million.
Statewide slot win remained relatively stable in June, down slightly by 1.5%. The standout sector for the month was sports betting. Nevada sportsbooks recorded $29.8 million in revenue, a staggering 212% increase year-over-year. This surge is attributed to major international soccer events, such as the UEFA Euros and CONMEBOL Copa America. Mobile sports betting particularly excelled, with GGR of $16.7 million, marking a 244% increase compared to the previous year.
