The Virginia Lottery recently released the revenue figures for June, revealing that the state’s three casinos collectively generated $59.5 million. Slot machines accounted for nearly $44 million of this total, while table games contributed $15.5 million.
Among the casinos, Rivers Casino Portsmouth led the pack, earning almost $26 million. Caesars Virginia followed with $19.2 million, and HR Bristol added $14.3 million to the combined revenue.
Tax Contributions and Casino Expansion
In June, Virginia’s casinos contributed $10.7 million in taxes to the Gaming Proceeds Fund. Caesars Virginia, which has been operational for over a year, is the third casino established within the state. Rivers Casino Portsmouth and HR Bristol, both open for two years, continue to attract significant patronage.
Virginia lawmakers have been pushing to expand the state’s casino offerings. However, efforts to introduce a casino in Petersburg faced setbacks, with the Senate committee rejecting the proposal in both the 2022 and 2023 legislative sessions. Despite this, Petersburg’s lawmakers voted in favor of bringing a casino to the city earlier this year. The legislation passed in both the House of Delegates and the Senate.
Senator Lashrecse Aird’s proposed bill gained traction in the House, passing with a vote of 78 to 18. Shortly after, the Senate approved the bill with a vote of 24 to 16, paving the way for potential future developments in Petersburg’s gaming landscape.
