JOI Gaming Faces Penalty Threat for Marketing Violations

The Dutch gaming authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has issued a warning to JOI Gaming, the company that runs the Jacks brand of gambling in the country, of possible harsh penalties. The KSA forewarned JOI Gaming that if it continues to violate the prohibition on utilizing role models in gambling marketing, it could face a maximum penalties of €1 million.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said that at the 2023 Jack’s Racing Day event, JOI Gaming role models autographed caps bearing the event’s logo and the Jacks brand name. Role models were also pictured with hostesses clad in business suits emblazoned with the Jacks emblem. These pictures were shared on social media and put up on the Jack’s Racing Day website.

“These posts were still available when the order was imposed. If JOI Gaming does not remove these statements immediately, the company must pay a penalty of €50,000 per day,” the KSA stated.

Future Violations and Penalties

The regulatory body additionally cautioned that if the infraction was committed again before or during subsequent Jack’s Racing Day events, there would be a daily fine of €200,000 and a maximum penalty of €1 million. August 2-4, 2024 is the planned date of the next Jack’s Racing Day at TT Circuit Assen.

“To protect vulnerable groups such as young people and risk and problem gamblers, strict rules apply to the use of role models for gambling advertising,” the KSA emphasized in a statement. The use of celebrities, former professional footballers, influencers, and models as role models is prohibited for high-risk gambling activities like casinos and online gambling. However, for lower-risk gambling activities, such as lotteries, role models may be used under stringent conditions.
