The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has directed internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to Richard Casino and Wanted Win. These websites have violated the Australia Interactive Gambling Act 2001 by operating without the necessary licenses and offering unapproved services.
Enforcement Actions and Compliance
ACMA enforces strict regulations to protect Australians from illegal gambling services. Website blocking is one of the primary measures ACMA employs against operators offering prohibited services, such as online casinos and in-play internet sports betting. Operators can also face blocks for running unlicensed gambling activities or advertising such services.
Since the first blocking request in November 2019, ACMA has blocked approximately 1,011 illegal gambling and affiliate websites. Additionally, over 220 illegal services have withdrawn from the Australian market following ACMA’s enforcement actions against offshore gambling.
“ACMA is reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important consumer protections,” the authority stated. “This means our laws can’t help if something goes wrong, like if the service provider withholds winnings.”
ACMA’s approach remains consistent in its efforts to safeguard Australian consumers. Last month, A Big Candy, Jackpoty, and John Vegas Casino were also blocked by ISPs after breaching online gambling regulations. Similarly, in May, ACMA requested the blocking of Jogi Casino, Dundee Slots, Lucky Hunter, Lucky Wins, Lukki Casino, Spin Fever, Clubhouse Casino, and Winport Casino.
In March, another set of websites, including Lucky7even, 50 Crowns, Rockwin, Bitdreams, Mr Pacho, Casino Infinity, Zota Bet, and Spicyjackpots, were blocked. February saw ACMA targeting 12 more websites for similar breaches.
