The three casinos in Detroit have disclosed their June performance data, which is a mixed bag according to the Michigan Gaming Control Board. The three casinos in Detroit together recorded $105.4 million in revenue in June. Nearly $104.5 million, or the majority of the revenue, came from slot machines and table games. The remaining $900,000 was contributed via retail sports betting.
There was a little 2.6% rise in revenue from table games and slots compared to the previous year. On the other hand, June revenue decreased 6.1% from May and April as well. With 46% of the market share in June, MGM maintained its top spot. Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MotorCity came in second and third, respectively, with 24% and 30%.
Individual Casino Performance
MotorCity Casino was the only establishment to experience a decrease in monthly gaming revenue, totaling nearly $31.2 million and reflecting a 3.1% decline. In contrast, MGM reported a 3.6% increase in revenue, reaching $48.7 million for the month. Hollywood Casino at Greektown saw a notable 9% month-over-month increase, with revenue totaling almost $24.4 million.
In terms of taxes, Detroit’s casinos contributed $8.5 million in gaming taxes to the state and an additional $12.4 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the city.
June’s retail sports betting activities across the three casinos generated a total handle of nearly $8.4 million, with gross receipts amounting to $900,000. Qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) showed a significant decrease of over 52% compared to the previous month. MotorCity led in sports betting activity with a QAGR close to $500,000.
