After over ten years without a win at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), Daniel Negreanu has secured his seventh WSOP gold bracelet. This achievement is a major milestone for the 49-year-old Poker Hall of Famer, whose last win was at the 2013 WSOP Europe.
Negreanu’s victory came in the Event #58: $50,000 Poker Players Championship, known for its demanding nine-game mixed format. The Canadian poker pro outperformed a field of 89 entries, earning $1,178,703 and his long-awaited bracelet.
“This is the tournament,” Negreanu stated after his win. “All the best players show up for this one. The structures are long, and it’s a grind to stay sharp for five days. When you win this tournament, you earn it. There’s no fluking the $50,000 Poker Players Championship.”
With this win, Negreanu joins an elite group of just 10 players who have won seven or more WSOP bracelets.
Negreanu’s previous bracelet victory was at the 2013 WSOP Europe in a €25,000 high roller event. It has been 3,899 days since that win and this recent accomplishment. His bracelet collection includes two in mixed games (this win and the 2003 S.H.O.E.) and five in hold’em events. He won his first bracelet in the 1998 $2,000 pot-limit Omaha event, followed by the $2,000 limit hold’em in both 2004 and 2008. His first no-limit hold’em bracelet came in the 2013 WSOP Asia Pacific main event, the same year he secured his high roller victory.
Negreanu’s career tournament earnings now total $52,972,918, placing him seventh on poker’s all-time money list. Over $22.5 million of this comes from his successes at the WSOP.
