Flutter Entertainment has appointed Mark Shaw, a former Spotify executive, as its new director of global payments strategy. Shaw brings a wealth of experience from prominent roles at Spotify, TSB Bank, Visa Europe, and Vocalink. Additionally, he serves on the Bank of England’s CBDC technology forum.
Shaw’s extensive financial expertise will be instrumental as he oversees Flutter’s diverse portfolio of brands, including FanDuel, Paddy Power, Betfair, Sportsbet, Sisal, and PokerStars. Reflecting on his first month in the role, Shaw expressed excitement about working with Flutter’s “awesome local payment team” to “build out the future for payments across the group.”
In his LinkedIn statement, Shaw said, “It’s a big change from Spotify in so many ways, but new challenges and learning are the only constants in life, so it’s time to get stuck in and help ‘Change The Game.’”
Shearer Joins Betfair as Ambassador
In other news, Flutter’s Betfair brand named Alan Shearer its latest ambassador. The renowned soccer pundit and former professional athlete will offer fans insightful analysis throughout the Euro 2024 and Premier League seasons. Shearer’s collaboration with Betfair began with the “Football… Only Bettor: Euros Preview Special” podcast, where he shared his thoughts on the English team’s prospects.
Commenting on the team’s performance, Shearer noted, “While the former athlete was impressed with the team’s front, he said that there is more to be desired by its defense.” He also praised Jude Bellingham’s “remarkable talent and maturity.”
Betfair, expressing their excitement, said, “We’re looking forward to hearing more on upcoming episodes and his view on last night’s match where Jude certainly displayed that talent.”
Shearer, a 1996 Golden Boot winner, is celebrated as the greatest English striker of the past 30 years.
