Xixiang Luo made poker history by winning the inaugural double board bomb pot event at the World Series of Poker. The Chinese player emerged victorious from a field of 1,312 participants in the $1,500 buy-in tournament, which combined pot-limit Omaha and no-limit hold’em. Luo walked away with $270,820 and his first WSOP gold bracelet.
Luo’s win marks his ninth recorded tournament victory, pushing his career earnings to nearly $2.9 million. Earlier this year, he won the Asian Poker Tour main Event in Jeju, earning $311,735.
This tournament wasn’t entirely about double board bomb pots, which skip preflop action and have all players ante. These special pots only occurred at the start of each game change between PLO and NLH.
A total of 197 players earned a portion of the $1,751,520 prize pool, with the top 23 finishers taking home five-figure sums. Sixteen players advanced to the final day, with Luo leading the pack.
Several notable players made deep runs, including two-time bracelet winner David Prociak (19th), bracelet winner Dario Alioto (13th), bracelet winner Dejuante Alexander (11th), bracelet winner Gaby Livshitz (7th), and rising star Quan Zhou (5th).
The final battle for the title was against Daniel Hachem, son of Joe Hachem, WSOP Main Event Winner of 2005. Their heads-up duel lasted so long that a fourth day of competition was almost required. However, a crucial hand secured Luo’s victory. Despite Hachem taking the lead several times during the heads-up match, Luo managed to clinch the win. Hachem earned $180,541 as the runner-up, marking his highest career score.
