He outplayed 171 entrants in the $125,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event to claim the top prize of $4,737,000. This win more than doubled his career tournament earnings, which now exceed $8.3 million.
“It’s a really amazing feeling,” Vaskaboinikau shared with Triton reporters. “I had a good feeling about this a few months ago. I put this thought in my mind in a dream.”
Before this achievement, Vaskaboinikau’s highest payday was $492,041, which he earned for finishing fourth in a €100,000 buy-in event at the 2022 European Poker Tour Monte Carlo. This recent victory significantly elevates his status in the poker world.
The tournament featured a total prize pool of $21,375,000. Many renowned players finished in the money, including five-time Triton champion Mikita Badziakouski (26th), Dan Smith (25th), Patrik Antonius (23rd), 2019 World Series of Poker champion Hossein Ensan (22nd), Mashashi Oya (14th), Chris Brewer (13th), Triton co-founder Paul Phua (12th), and Phil Ivey (4th).
The heads-up play began with Vaskaboinikau holding a substantial lead of 35,450,000 chips against Dejan Kaladjurdjevic’s 7,250,000. On the second hand, Kaladjurdjevic went all-in with J2. Vaskaboinikau called with 66, and the board came K10872, securing Vaskaboinikau’s victory. Kaladjurdjevic, as the runner-up, took home $3,196,000, marking his largest live tournament score to date.
