Michael Liang Wins 2024 Lodge Poker Championship Series Main Event

Michael Liang has claimed the title and a $428,000 top prize at the 2024 Lodge Championship Series $2,000,000 guaranteed $3,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event.

Liang’s win marks the third-largest score of his career, following his $606,890 runner-up finish at the 2021 World Poker Tour Venetian main event and his $515,014 second-place showing in a $25,000 high roller at the 2021 World Series of Poker. His career tournament earnings now exceed $3.1 million.

The event attracted 581 entries, resulting in a $416,775 overlay. The top 63 finishers cashed, with a minimum payout of $7,600. The final day began with 13 players, with Liang tied for third in chips and bracelet winner Nicholas Pupillo in the lead.

Preston Duron, the 2023 Lodge Championship Series main event winner, made a strong bid to defend his title. However, he finished in seventh place, earning $62,000, when his 6-4 suited lost to Pupillo’s 7-6.

At the start of the heads-up play, Pupillo held 18,640,000 chips to Liang’s 10,380,000. Liang narrowed the gap by winning a substantial pot with a turned nut flush against Pupillo’s second-nut flush. Liang then took the lead and built a sizable advantage.

In the final hand, Liang raised to 1,000,000 from the button with A♠8♣. Pupillo three-bet shoved for 7,350,000 with K♦5♦. Liang called, and the board ran out 10♦7♠2♣9♣8♠, securing Liang the pot and the title. Pupillo, as the runner-up, earned $277,200, increasing his lifetime earnings to over $5.8 million.
