El Cortez Hotel & Casino Announces $20 Million Revamp

El Cortez Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas is set to revamp its premises with a $20 million renovation slated to start this summer. The historic casino will see several upgrades including a high-limit slot room, two innovative bars, a restaurant, and a coffee shop. These additions follow a substantial $30 million investment last year that upgraded various sections of the casino and its accommodations.

This new project will extend the casino by 10,000 square feet and includes the refurbishment of 4,000 square feet of the existing gaming area. Additionally, the current high-limit area will be reconfigured to house table games.

“We are thrilled to unveil our latest expansion project, which represents a significant milestone for El Cortez and the community of downtown Vegas,” CEO Kenny Epstein shared enthusiastically.

As part of the renovation, a Starbucks will open in June 2024 and a modern Asian restaurant, Hot Noods by Chinglish, is expected to launch in early 2025. Furthermore, one of the new bars will feature a roulette theme, taking the place of the locally famed Ike’s, and will offer a live music stage and screens for films and sports events. General Manager Adam Wiesberg emphasized the need to blend tradition with modernity to appeal to younger patrons, stating, “With all the young people coming in, we have to stick to our history – we’ll be 83 this year. The young people want to be a part of that, so we have to continue to stay modern and exciting. These new bars will create a new energy.”

The expansion plans also cater to the rising interest from social media influencers in high-limit slot gaming, prompting the addition of a new slot room designed for filming and privacy.
