With the departure of Chair Barry Gibson from the board, Entain, a pioneer in sports betting and gambling globally, is preparing for an internal leadership change. Stella David, who is presently acting as an interim CEO, will take over as chair following his departure.
Entain has stated that Barry Gibson would step down from his role by September 2024. But Gibson may go sooner if the business names a permanent CEO before then. According to Entain, the ongoing CEO search is moving very nicely.
Gibson’s Impact and Legacy at Entain
Gibson, who joined the board in November 2019 and assumed the chairmanship in February 2020, played a pivotal role in Entain’s transformation journey from GVC to its current entity. During his tenure, he spearheaded board renewal initiatives, emphasized market regulation, and navigated the company through regulatory probes.
Under Gibson’s leadership, Entain witnessed significant expansion, achieving a remarkable EBITDA growth to £1 billion in 2023.
Stella David, a seasoned non-executive director and senior independent director at Entain since 2021, will succeed Gibson. With an illustrious career spanning board positions in various industries, including William Grant & Sons and Bacardi, David brings a wealth of corporate experience to her new role.
Gibson thanked David for his four years at Entain and praised her as a superb replacement, pointing to her strong leadership as interim CEO.
Stella David, for her part, thanked Gibson for being a mentor and a wise man and promised to keep advancing Entain’s operational strategy in her new position.
Senior independent director Pierre Bouchut praised Gibson for his skillful handling of obstacles and conveyed his belief in David’s ability to guide Entain into its next phase of growth.
