Two employees of Rivers Casino have been apprehended by state police following an extensive investigation into a sophisticated cheating scheme at a Roulette table. Robin Schnepp, a table games dealer, and supervisor Anthony Laush are accused of collaborating with players to cheat on multiple occasions, resulting in substantial illicit winnings.
Authorities initiated the investigation after Rivers Casino received an anonymous tip-off regarding suspicious activities surrounding the Interblock Roulette game. A regular patron, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared concerns about irregularities observed during visits to the casino with local news outlet WPXI. He highlighted instances of anomalies in the digital number display and delays during gameplay.
“In the past year, I noticed a couple glitches with it, with the digital number coming up and the delay,” said the Rivers Casino patron.
Exploiting Roulette Game Mechanics
The manipulation allegedly occurred during games of Interblock Roulette, where the dealer spins the ball manually. It’s reported that if this manual spinning is not executed, sensors fail to detect the wheel’s rotation, enabling players to continue betting after the ball has landed on a number.
State law enforcement revealed that surveillance footage captured Schnepp incorrectly spinning the roulette ball on multiple occasions. Subsequently, a man and a woman increased their bets after the ball had settled, resulting in over $2,000 in fraudulent winnings per player. Laush, the supervisor, purportedly sanctioned these spins.
Authorities suspect that Schnepp and Laush had an arrangement with the players, receiving a portion of the ill-gotten gains. Additionally, Laush allegedly loaded fraudulent comps onto one player’s account. While the motive remains unclear, the incident highlights potential criminal behavior among casino staff.
Both suspects are scheduled for preliminary court hearings on April 2nd. The casino estimates losses exceeding $10,000 and anticipates multiple charges against the accused individuals.
