Eight Operators Set to Join North Carolina’s Betting Scene

In North Carolina, the sports betting scene is gearing up for a massive launch on March 11, with the North Carolina Sports Betting Committee playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of this industry in the state. As of recent updates, eight out of nine operators who applied for sports betting licenses are on track to secure their approvals before the market opens, marking a major step forward for the Tar Heel State in embracing sports betting.

Sterl Carpenter, the Deputy Executive Director of Gaming Compliance and Sports Betting, informed the committee about the progress in the licensing process. These operators, along with their market access partners, range from well-known names in the sports and gaming arenas to emerging players looking to establish a foothold in North Carolina. The partnerships include bet365 with the Charlotte Hornets, BetMGM with the Charlotte Motor Speedway, and notable associations between DraftKings and NASCAR, Fanatics Betting and Gaming with the Carolina Hurricanes, and FanDuel with the PGA Tour, and of course Caesars Sportsbook with Tribal Casino Gaming Enterprise Cherokee.

However, it appears that the Catawba Two Kings Casino might not make the deadline to start operations by the market’s launch date. This development leaves room for anticipation about how the landscape will adjust and which operators will finally go live, come March 11.

Operators are currently in the phase of obtaining their certificates of compliance, a prerequisite for starting their operations and registering new users from March 1. This step is crucial for ensuring that all operators meet the stringent standards set by the state for responsible and fair gaming.

Additionally, the committee has taken a proactive stance on responsible gambling by instituting a voluntary sports betting exclusion program. This initiative allows residents to self-exclude from sports betting activities, offering options for temporary or permanent exclusion, underscoring North Carolina’s commitment to promoting responsible gambling practices.

The state has also granted licenses to seven sports betting suppliers, entities that play a supporting role by providing essential services such as integrity monitoring, content, and data. These suppliers, including SportContentCo, LLC, and LexisNexis Risk Solutions FL, Inc., have been awarded licenses valid for 180 days, highlighting the regulatory framework’s comprehensiveness in ensuring a well-rounded and integrity-focused betting environment.

As North Carolina stands on the cusp of introducing sports betting, the developments within the committee and the licensing process reflect the state’s meticulous approach to ensuring a secure, responsible, and competitive market. With the launch date fast approaching, stakeholders and residents alike are keenly watching as the final pieces fall into place, setting the stage for a new era in North Carolina’s gaming and sports betting industry.
