The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has escalated its efforts to combat illegal online gambling by directing Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to a dozen more websites found to violate the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The move targets websites such as Playzilla, Wazamba, Zet Casino, Slots Palace, Nomini, Casinia, SG Casino, Fez Bet, Buran Casino, Spin Better, Golden Bet, and Clash.gg, which have been identified as offering prohibited gambling services to Australian customers. These services range from online casinos and slot machines to in-play sports betting platforms without a valid Australian license.
ACMA’s enforcement strategy includes the use of website blocking as a key tool to shield Australians from the harms of illegal online gambling. This step is part of a broader effort to ensure that Australians are not exposed to gambling services that operate outside the legal framework established to protect consumers and ensure fair play. Since November 2019, when ACMA initiated its first website blocking request, a total of 926 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been made inaccessible in Australia. Additionally, more than 220 illicit services have withdrawn from the Australian market in response to ACMA’s crackdown on offshore gambling operations.
