The 2024 World Poker Tour Cambodia Championship saw a remarkable turnout of 760 players at the $3,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event. Held at the NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh, the event’s prize pool reached an impressive $2,432,760, well above the $1 million initial guarantee. After a three-way deal, Konstantin Held from Germany took home the championship title and a handsome $361,310 in winnings.
This victory marks a milestone in Held’s poker career. Before this, his biggest prize was $261,080 from a sixth-place finish at the 2023 European Poker Tour in Paris. His total earnings in tournaments are now over $763,000.
The final stages of the championship involved a deal among the top three players, the eventual winner Konstantin Held, and two familiar faces in the Asian Poker scene, Florent Remi and Josh McCully, reshaping the prize distribution but leaving the championship title, trophy, and a $10,400 seat at the season-ending WPT World Championship in Las Vegas for the taking. In the end, Held faced Joshua McCully in a head-to-head battle for top honours.
Held shared his joy with WPT reporters, saying, “Over the moon. Honestly, over the moon.” He talked about the excitement of facing a friend in the final and praised the NagaWorld venue and the overall experience in Cambodia.
The tournament ensured payouts for the top 95 players, with the last five taking home six-figure amounts. Entering the final day as the chip leader, Held extended his lead by eliminating Jianfeng Sun (7th – $69,678) and Kyle Bao Diep (6th – $90,532).
The eliminations continued with Amit Kaushik finishing fifth with $118,906, followed by Motoyoshi Okamura in fourth place, earning $157,858. The final three players – Held, Florent Remi, and Mccully – agreed to redistribute the remaining prize money as follows:
- Konstantin Held: $350,910
- Florent Remi: $302,019
- Joshua McCully: $277,291
In the final stages, McCully knocked out Remi for the third place and temporarily led with a significant chip advantage. However, Held quickly reversed the situation and took the win in this prestigious tournament.
