Golden Nugget Casino in Danville, Illinois, recently celebrated its journey from a temporary license to now being a proud holder of a permanent operator license. The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) gave the nod to Danville Development, LLC, which operates under the Golden Nugget Danville brand. Their license, slated to last four years, will need a renewal by October 2027.
This isn’t an isolated event. Alongside Golden Nugget, Walker’s Bluff Casino Resort and Bally’s in Chicago also witnessed their licenses being approved unanimously with a 3-0 board vote.
Each casino had its moment before the IGB, highlighting their operations and showcasing their commitment since receiving their tentative licenses. “With today’s licensing actions, the Illinois Gaming Board has opened and licensed five new casinos since November of 2021,” said IGB Administrator Marcus D. Fruchter. He further added, “The staff and Board Members of the IGB remained steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the ethics, compliance, integrity, safety, and transparency of Illinois gaming.”
Golden Nugget Casino, which stands tall with a $100 million investment, began its construction in April 2022. Located at 204 Eastgate Drive in Danville, it soon received a temporary green light from the IGB. With financial backing from KeyBank and Wilhelm Construction of Indianapolis at the helm, the casino’s construction journey was an intriguing one. They marked their soft launch in May and held a grand opening in August.
The figures reveal an impressive story. Close to 135,000 patrons visited the casino, bringing in adjusted gross receipts totaling over $12 million. The employment statistics are equally commendable with 244 current employees and a remarkable 90% retention rate. The team has expanded by 85 since its doors opened, and there’s a plan to bring in 20-30 more dealers. The workforce diversity stands out, with 29% minorities, 60% women, and over half of these women in leadership positions.
Guests at the casino can try their luck with almost 500 slot machines or enjoy one of the 14 Las Vegas-style table games on offer. The sportsbook section, however, is still under wraps.
