Las Vegas Heist Mastermind Sentenced to 12 Years in Federal Prison

Former police officer Caleb M. Rogers received a 12-year jail term after a spectacular trial that shocked the residents of Las Vegas. On October 17, US District Judge Andrew P. Gordon announced the conviction, putting an investigation into frightening allegations of daring casino thefts to an end.

The Daring Casino Heists

Rogers, 35, was accused of robbing three prestigious Las Vegas casinos, where he amassed an incredible quantity of money totaling more than $160,000. These daring robberies, which took place between November 2021 and February 2022, alarmed the city’s glitzy casinos.

Prosecutors described Rogers’ painstakingly planned and ruthlessly precise tactics during the trial. Rogers boldly approached the casino cashier cages wearing a mask, black latex gloves, and dark clothing while threateningly demanding money and pretended to have a concealed weapon. His heists at the Red Rock Casino Resort, Aliante Casino & Hotel, and the venerable Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino close to the Las Vegas Strip were all successful.

By flashing a service gun during the Rio Casino heist, Rogers increased the seriousness of his offenses. After a confrontation with casino security guards in a parking area not far from the Las Vegas Strip, he was apprehended on February 27, 2022. Despite the fact that the cops were outnumbered, Rogers threatened to shoot them before being captured, which caused one security guard to retire as a result of the traumatizing event.

Prosecutors contend that Rogers, a once-respected officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, eventually resorted to desperate methods as a result of a severe gambling addiction and rising financial problems.

Josiah Rogers, Rogers’ younger brother, gave damaging testimony throughout the trial, recalling the specifics of the Red Rock Casino heist, during which they made off with around $73,810. Under oath, Josiah Rogers revealed the meticulous preparation, practice, and distribution of the stolen money in their shared apartment.

Crystal Rogers, Rogers’ mother, attended the sentencing hearing in a federal courthouse and voiced her displeasure with her son’s behavior. Rogers expressed regret for his actions and expressed how deeply his misdeeds had affected his family and loved ones.
