To pay homage to the revered poker icon, poker rooms across America are dedicating October 2nd as “Doyle Brunson Day.” This special day is aimed to honor the man often referred to as “The Godfather of Poker” who sadly departed this world in May, right on the cusp of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Brunson etched his name in the annals of poker history when he clinched the WSOP Main Event in consecutive years, 1976 and 1977, with a ‘Ten Deuce‘.
Poker Royalty, responsible for managing Doyle Brunson, is collaborating with The Lodge and a handful of other establishments: Peppermill Reno and three Live! brand poker rooms located in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Their collective goal is to ensure the poker community fondly remembers Oct. 2.
The Lodge, having the likes of Doug Polk, Andrew Neeme, and Brad Owen as its stakeholders, has announced a unique prize. A whopping $10,200 will be handed out to the fortunate cash game player who bags a hand with 10 X 2 X on the designated day.
Meanwhile, Peppermill, a well-known hub for poker in Northern Nevada, has its own set of surprises. Between the timeframes of 10:02 a.m. and 10:02 p.m., they plan to reward $100 to players who pull off a flush or achieve a full house using 10 X 2 X .
Further promotions are in store at the Live! poker rooms. Specifically, at Philly Live!, renowned for hosting the PokerStars Summer Series, there’s a twist to the daytime high hand qualifier on 10/2. The criteria will be relaxed to tens full of deuces, but this still awaits regulatory green light.
In addition to these rooms, the World Poker Tour (WPT) has something brewing for the day, though they are yet to unveil their offerings. It’s noteworthy that prior to his demise, Brunson donned the hat of a WPT ambassador.
The decision to dedicate 10/2 as Doyle Brunson Day was cemented during a heartfelt memorial at this year’s WSOP. It was a nod to the man affectionately called “Texas Dolly,” and this upcoming Monday, players across the country will participate in promotions that salute him.
