Jonas Warrer Assumes Acting CEO Role at Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) Following Richard Brown’s Departure

In a significant turn of events, Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has ushered in a new era of leadership as it undergoes a transformative split into two distinct entities. Jonas Warrer, the former Chief Marketing Officer at GiG, has stepped into the role of Acting Group Chief Executive following the recent departure of Richard Brown.

Jonas Warrer, a familiar face within GiG, has been a key player in the company’s growth story since his arrival in September 2017 as Managing Director of Media and General Manager. Having donned multiple hats, Warrer ascended to the position of Chief Marketing Officer in April 2021. His extensive experience within GiG and the industry at large made him a natural choice for this pivotal role.

Warrer’s appointment comes with added significance as he has also agreed to lead GiG Media once the business officially splits next year. The restructuring aims to enhance expansion opportunities and bolster shareholder value. Richard Carter, the former CEO of SBTech, was recently appointed to spearhead the Platform and Sportsbook division, signifying GiG’s commitment to a streamlined future.

GiG anticipates completing the proposed split during the first half of the upcoming year. This strategic move is set to revitalize the company, enabling it to navigate the gaming industry’s ever-evolving landscape more efficiently.

Petter Nylander, GiG’s Executive Chairman, expressed his satisfaction with Warrer’s appointment, emphasizing the importance of his long-standing association with GiG and the sector. Nylander said, “He has long experience within GiG and the industry and has been part of GiG’s executive management for four years.”

Richard Brown’s departure was confirmed in May, shortly after the split plans were unveiled. Originally slated to continue in his role until the end of 2023, he stepped down earlier than expected. As part of his exit agreement, Brown will assist in the transition to Richard Carter and provide support to the GiG board until the year’s end. This transitional phase will empower both new CEOs to lead their respective business units with a clear mandate.

Richard Brown is poised to assume the role of CEO at Glitnor Group in January 2024, marking a fresh chapter in his illustrious career. Reflecting on the transition, Brown stated, “GiG is in a tremendous position strategically and operationally. With Jonas and Richard now in place to drive the business units towards further success, it is a good time for me to move to a supportive but non-operational role until the end of the year.”
