Ground Broken for Son Of Star Casino in North Dakota

The Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation recently broke ground on the upcoming Son Of Star Casino in White Shield, North Dakota. Teaming up with 4 Bears Casino, DSGW Architecture, and Woodstone Inc., the launch ceremony set the ambitious vision for this 37,000 square foot venue, planned for a 2026 opening.

Just south of the local powwow grounds is where this casino will call home. It promises a rich lineup of 230 slot machines, six table games, a sportsbook, and a poker room. Moreover, visitors can look forward to a restaurant, coffee joint, gift store, and a campground. Ambitious future expansion plans include a hotel, convenience store, and an event hub.

Deeply interwoven with the MHA Nation’s history and culture, the casino’s design embodies these elements. While a native-inspired exterior beckons, inside, attendees will find areas adorned with indigenous art, historical journeys, and unique artifacts. In a nod to nature, the casino interior divides into four zones, each representing fire, water, earth, and wind.

DSGW’s Principal, Erik C. Wedge, shared, “We are honored to have worked with the MHA Nation to create this new casino. The casino is a beautiful and welcoming space that will provide both entertainment and economic opportunities for the MHA Nation and the surrounding community.”

With a portfolio boasting over 400 tribal projects in 14 states, DSGW Architecture takes the helm for this venture. Their indigenous-focused architectural approach has seen partnerships with more than 40 native communities, resulting in a diverse range of structures from clinics to casinos.
